Oz Clarke, one of the world's leading wine experts, has declared his love for Alnwick Rum. Inside The Journal, a special article on how Oz spent some time sampling Alnwick Rum's sublime nature at a recent BBC Good Food exhibition, he had this to say about the legendary rum.
"This project is one to be supported. I like the way Ian has made it and blended lots of rums together. I like its dark heart and the viscous green edge to the meniscus - it looks proper stuff and so much more interesting then the likes of Captain Morgan rum. Indeed, I'm a real supporter of Alnwick Rum; it's an interesting product and it has an interesting story."
Alnwick Rum has always been close to Ian Linsley's heart - as a 12-year-old boy he had helped his father at the brewery and eventually pursued a sales and management career himself with Dryboroughs. The Alnwick blend is beautifully red chestnut in colour with toffee and tropical fruit flavours - notably banana - with nutmeg hints and a long, lingering after-flavour of honey, which nods in the direction of Guyana Demerara. It was commended in the annual International Wine and Spirit competition in 2004.
